Local Tourism

The Lake Iliamna/Kvichak River water system is renowned for having the best sportfishing in all of Alaska. July sees phenomenal runs of sockeye salmon from Bristol Bay up the Kvichak River, and August and September are prime times for fishing in the only designated Trophy Rainbow Trout area in Alaska, where Rainbows grow in excess of 30 inches. September is also prime time for hunting caribou or ptarmigan.

If you would like to stay in the village of Igiugig there are two local places to stay:
Igiugig Boardinghouse
Contact Dan Salmon at Dsigiugig@aol.com
Kvichak Cabin
Contact Bernadette Andrew at kvichakcabin@aol.com
Boat and ATV rentals are available from both of these operators; rates for both operators are seasonal.

Also, several full service sportfishing and hunting lodges operate out of Igiugig, including:
Alaska Sportsman’s Lodge
Blueberry Island Lodge
Kvichak Lodge
Ole Creek Lodge
Royal Wolf Lodge

Peninsula Air is the only operator running regularly scheduled flights to Igiugig—flights are on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons.
It is also possible to charter a flight to Igiugig with a number of different airlines, including Birchwood Air, Iliamna Air Taxi, Lake and Pen Air, and Lake Clark Air.
